Goat
Goat (often called caprine or fauns, though true fauns are more fey) are horned Awakened
adapted to rugged hills and mountains. They typically have goat-like horns (ranging from small
curved horns to large twisting ones), hooved feet, and coarse hair. Goat are sure-footed and
hardy, able to thrive in high altitudes and steep terrain where others struggle. They often live in
cliffside villages or roam as herders of mountain goats and sheep. Culturally, goat value
perseverance, freedom, and a touch of mischief – they have a reputation for being stubborn but
also for their surprising sense of humor and love of music (panpipes and drums are common in
their festivities). They frequently make offerings to gods of the mountain or sky, and many goat
shamans claim to converse with the spirits of the peaks. A goat’s temperament can be gruff and
headstrong; they rarely shy from an argument. However, they are also dependable allies and
unafraid of hard labor or battle. It’s said that a goat’s promise is as solid as the rock under their
feet – unless of course you really try their patience.
Goat Traits. Your goat character has the following species traits:
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score
increases by 1.
Age. Goat mature at a rate similar to most mammals and live about as long – typically
around 75 years, with the most aged reaching 90. High-altitude living and a tough
lifestyle mean few reach extreme old age.
Alignment. Goat tend toward neutral alignments. They respect their community’s rules
(leaning lawful at home), but they also have an independent streak and a bit of
rebellious nature (leaning chaotic when wandering). Overall, most are not particularly
polarized toward good or evil – a majority simply want to live free and will treat others
as they are treated.
Size. Goat are usually of medium height, ranging from 4 to 5 feet tall, though their horns can
add a few inches. They have compact, muscular builds, weighing 120–180 pounds. Your
size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Horns. You have a set of goat horns that you can use for unarmed strikes. On a hit with your
horns, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier (in place of
the normal unarmed strike damage).
Sure-Footed. You have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws made against
effects that would knock you prone. You’re also exceptionally good at handling rough
terrain: moving through nonmagical difficult terrain costs you no extra movement if that
terrain is rocky, mountainous, or stairs. (Goat can clamber over rocks and uneven ground
with ease.)
Mountain Born. You’re acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.
You’re also naturally adapted to cold climates, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon
Master’s Guide (you don’t suffer the usual penalties of extreme cold).
Ram. When you move at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and hit it with a melee
attack on the same turn, you can immediately attempt to shove that target with your
horns as a bonus action. (Use the normal shove rules; you have advantage on this shove
attempt thanks to your momentum.)
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Beast Speech.
