Rat

Rat are wiry, sharp-minded Awakened with rat-like features. They are often misunderstood by
others as sly or untrustworthy, but rat simply prioritize survival and cleverness, having long
lived in the margins of society. Many rat dwell in city sewers, alleyways, or in warrens beneath
towns, where they have created their own tight-knit communities (sometimes likened to “gangs”
or clans). They are opportunistic and resourceful scavengers, but also industrious traders – a rat
might just as quickly cut your purse as sell you a treasure salvaged from a trash heap. Culturally,
rat admire cunning and adaptability. Some tales claim the first rat were created by a devious
trickster god to be survivors in a hostile world. Rat themselves often worship deities of luck,
thievery, or night. While outsiders see them as sneaky, among their own, rat value loyalty and
cooperation – a necessity when the whole world seems bigger than you.

Rat Traits. Your rat character has the following species traits:

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score
increases by 1.

Age. Rat mature very quickly – by their early teens – and live roughly 60 years. Life in
hazardous environments often keeps their lifespans relatively short.

Alignment. Rat tend toward chaotic neutral. They value personal freedom and survival
over laws, and they aren’t often outright evil, though desperation can lead some to
unsavory acts. Many rat have a “code” of honor among themselves (for instance, “never
steal from your own clan”).

Size. Rat are small-framed. They usually stand 3 to 4 feet tall, with slender builds weighing
around 40–80 pound. Your size is Small.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. Accustomed to dim tunnels and night activities, you can see in dim light within
60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.

Keen Smell. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Streetwise. You have proficiency in the Stealth skill. Rat are adept at skittering through
shadows and staying out of sight.

Nimbleness. You can move through the space of any creature that is size Medium or larger.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Beast Speech.
