A Song of Ice & Fire

Even further north than the lands of House Stark lays The Wall. This imposing edifice protects the relatively calm, rich, and fertile lands from the much wilder civilizations that live beyond it.

The far north is a harsh and bitter realm. People don’t live in fully organized Houses like in much of Southern Westeros. Instead, they form loose bands and tribes. These tribes have started a mass migration down into much more warm and fertile lands

The rugged northlands breed hardy people who know that to survive in the harsh landscape, they must work together. As such, families have strong bonds strong as iron and even bannermen are like kin.

In combat, hitting the enemy without them being able to hit you back is a very powerful ability. In the battles of Westeros, warriors armed with bows can whittle down even heavily-armed foes, bringing victory to one side.

Some units can be judged on their military skills or strength, but in war, when another army is advancing, loyalty is a much more valuable asset. The Sworn Swords are the bedrock of the strategies for Stark commanders.

A Dothraki is effectively born in the saddle. From the earliest age, they learn to ride, becoming the greatest horsemen in the land. After many battles, these horsemen have honed their skills to perfection.

Many in Westeros regard those in the Free Folk army as savages, and many in the Free Folk seem to go out of their way to enhance that feeling.

While the great Houses of Westeros fight with one another over who will sit on the Iron Throne, a foreign faction steadily grows in power across the ocean. Daenerys Targaryen is uniting the Dothraki forces along with Khal Drogo.

House Lannister looks to maintain control of the Iron Throne and is willing to spend any cost in order to make it happen. Their coffers are open, and they are hiring the best soldiers in Westeros to lead their units.
